The Namesake Depicts in a very fascinating manner the pursuit of American dream by a typical Indian family son. With the vivid depiction of the rich Indian food, costume and religious beliefs against the backdrop of the American culture, Jhumpa Lahiri outlines the challenges that an American born children of Indian paresnt experience everyday. Gogol struggles to reconcile the everyday life he experience growing up in an American society with that of a completely different upbringing his parents had.
The book also elucidates the nuanced tale of the sacrifices and trade-offs (the eventual death of Gogol’s father) that we make in pursuing the American dream.
